Vijiji Children’s Home of Light – Nairobi, Kenyanairobi-vijiji-june-2008-children-gathered-1

In 2005, Rod – a single father – hired a Kenyan widow, Sarah Fanfo, to live in his home and help him care for his children and his mother.  Little did he know that she would start and run an orphanage in Nairobi from his kitchen table with a lap top and a cell phone, sending all he paid her to care for these children, one named after him, Rodney, and others after his children.  This children’s home is now one of the longest standing, best managed, most successful orphanages, the highest rated in the district now for 11 years, under the continuous leadership of Sarah Fango and her son John.  ChristChurch is now involved as a sponsoring church to resource these children.  Sarah’s goal is to provide practically for these children who are abandoned, neglected, abused, and orphaned from aids parents, as well as to lead them to Christ.  In 2005, she received 25 children from the national hospital to care for and continues to receive children on a regular basis.

How does this work?

Home Repairs Ministries (HRM) shows and shares Christ’s love by meeting critical housing needs, which make homes safer and more accessible, for low-income widows, single mothers, seniors and people with disabilities.

HRM also provides other nonprofits and service agencies with repairs or modifications, so that they can help more people in need, multiplying community resources. Families involved in Kingdom work, such as foster care and adoption, are also an area of focus.

HRM is projecting they will complete more than 220 projects, for the second straight year, in 2016.

For more information, please contact Jim Eschenberg (jime@homerepairs.org).

Home Repairs Ministries’ (HRM) mission is to provide vulnerable homeowners with critical repairs, and modifications to make their houses safer and more accessible, and to multiply resources for people in need by providing repairs, and light construction, to other nonprofits and service agencies, expanding their capacity.
